From cleansers and peels to aromachology lipsticks, Joey Chancis's unique products help women look and feel their best. Here, she talks about Joey New York and shares her tips for achieving a radiant glow.

When you were 24 years old, you opened a day spa in New York City’s exclusive Le Parker Meridian Hotel. What inspired you to launch the spa and, later, the Joey New York product line?
The goal of the spa was to analyze my clients’ individual skin-care needs and create customized regimens for them using a combination of world-class spa products. However, as I got more involved with the concept, I realized that there was a void in the market—certain products were sorely needed, but they didn’t exist. So I decided to create those products myself, and the result was the Joey New York collection.

Your first product, the Pure Pores Blackhead Remover and Pore Minimizer Gel, was a huge success. What led you to create that formula?
The Pure Pores Blackhead Remover and Pore Minimizer was definitely one of those sorely needed products. Many of my clients suffered from blackheads, oily skin, and enlarged pores—truly universal skin problems for most men, women, and teens. I knew there had to be a safe, gentle way to treat these issues both during a facial and at home. So I worked with chemists to create the perfect product, and after it launched, we received lots of great press and feedback.

Unlike many brands, Joey New York offers both skin-care products and color cosmetics. Why did you decide to focus on both areas?
I love the beauty business, and the thing I enjoy most about my job is that I can create products that I know will be beneficial for certain skin types. To me, there’s really no difference between skin care and makeup—all of my products are multipurpose, formulated with nourishing ingredients, and designed to help people achieve their best possible look. If you look good, of course, you’ll feel more confident, and I’m proud when consumers tell me that our products have improved their skin and boosted their confidence.

Can you explain how you utilize both natural and medical ingredients in your products?
Yes. It’s a combination cosmeceutical concept that marries the luxury of botanical spa products with medical ingredients. My Pure Pores Blackhead Remover and Pore Minimizer Gel and Chin Breakout Relief are two examples of this. Both contain natural spa botanicals as well as FDA-regulated amounts of salicylic acid. Another example is my MediSpa Collection, which combines hydrating and calming botanicals with 10 percent glycolic acid.

The line also boasts several products that are designed to serve as alternatives to invasive cosmetic procedures.
Yes. Most people don’t want to deal with the pain, risk, or hassle of invasive procedures. So I’m very proud of our One-Minute solutions—they’re safe, affordable alternatives that create immediately visible results. Line Up is an alternative to Botox, Super Duper Lips is an alternative to collagen, Instant Lifting and Contouring Serum is an alternative to a face-lift, and Correct-A-Line is an alternative to hyaluronic-acid injections. Plus, there’s my new Instant Chemistry Collection, which includes multifunctional and fabulously unique products. The Lunchtime Face Peel is a fast-acting, nonirritating peel that requires absolutely no downtime; the Quick Hand Plump smoothes, plumps, and gives hands a more youthful look; and the Go Gorgeous Lip and Lash Plump contains a marine-collagen plumping mascara, lipstick, and lip gloss, all in one interchangeable wand.

In addition to that, there’s the Joey New York Specialty line of lipsticks, glosses, and balms.
Yes. These products call on aromachology—a science that explores the effect of fragrances on the body and mind. There’s Cinnamen, which contains cinnamon and vanilla aromas, which are scientifically proven aphrodisiacs for men; LipNix, which uses lemon, geranium, and helichrysum to help smokers kick the habit; and LipFit, which calls on peppermint, grapefruit, and spearmint to curb the urge to eat.

What are your top tips for keeping skin healthy, clear, and glowing?
For starters, it’s very important to follow a care regimen that’s suited for your skin type. Thoroughly cleanse your face every evening, drink plenty of water, and of course, wear sunscreen every day. To prevent breakouts, keep your hands off of your face, and keep your phone away from your chin. When you moisturize your face, don’t forget your earlobes; most women neglect to hydrate their earlobes, and it shows. When you moisturize your body, don’t forget your back; if you can’t reach it, put a little moisturizer on your forearm, then use your forearm to get hard-to-reach spots. And if you feel a cyst coming, apply a warm compress immediately—it will either shrink the cyst or bring it to a head.

What can we expect to see next from Joey New York?
