Thought you’d seen the last of military fashion in the late ’90s? Think again. In keeping with this fall’s warrior-woman theme, designers have been looking to the uniforms of the armed forces for inspiration. Unlike the camo couture of the past, however, these styles are streamlined and sophisticated. Some of the best are Napoleonic jackets and peacoats adorned with epaulets, waist cinching, and golden embellishments.

Alvin Valley Military Jacket ($530; neimanmarcus.com)
This black-and-navy jacket comes with a modern cropped cut, a tabbed peplum waist, and three-quarter sleeves.

Fendi Double Felt Wool Military Coat ($2,500; eluxury.com)
Gold metallic leather details and a cinched waist put a feminine twist on a traditional style.

Dolce & Gabbana Military Shearling Coat ($5,250; saks.com)
Shoulder epaulettes, flap pockets, and silvertone buttons ornament this luxe shearling design.
