Deep Impact
Sunday
Although pale nails look gorgeous when you're lounging poolside, they're no match for this fall's sophisticated fashion forecast. (Dark layered knits, leopard-print heels, black patent bags, and...bubblegum-pink tips? We think not.) Luckily, Creative Nail Design has mixed up six new deep-impact shades ($6 each; creativenaildesign.com) designed to correspond with the hottest trends seen on the fall runways. Tweed, a velvety russet, and Fedora, a brazen brown, were the perfect finishing touches to the menswear-inspired styles at seen at Issa, Ellen Tracy, and Ashley Isham. Baroque, a metallic burgundy donned at the Douglas Hannant show, and Flounce, a butterscotch laced with flecks of gold, are perfectly in keeping with the season's new romanticism (think decadent brocades, taffeta ruffles, and velvet peep-toe shoes). Hand-Me-Down, a creamy fuchsia unveiled at Betsey Johnson, is tailor-made for rock goddesses who love plaid, animal prints, and babydoll dresses. But our favorite fall shade is Perfect Mis-Match--a full-bodied ruby shimmer that looks flawless with any fall couture. --Jennifer Riley
