The Princess Diaries
Friday
Chances are, you abandoned your dreams of wearing a tiara, marrying a prince, and being commemorated on tea towels long ago. But with Vera Wang's newest fragrance, Princess ($52; sephora.com), you can still indulge your childhood fantasies in olfactory form. Flirty and whimsical, the scent opens to a mouthwatering blend of sweet dessert notes, like mandarin meringue, dark chocolate, chiffon vanilla, and pink frosting accord. As it unfolds on the skin, the dessert aromas begin to soften, giving way to tropical blossoms and fruit such as lady apple, pink guava, water lily, Tahitian flower, and wild tuberose, and eventually to a warm base of precious amber, forbidden woods, and royal musk captive. The eau de toilette smells detectable for a good four to five hours, and when paired with the scrumptious body butter (which is sufficiently scented to be worn on its own), it lingers even longer and develops richer vanilla tones. While Princess's aroma is reminiscent of the new Missoni fragrance's (especially in its clever use of chocolate), the packaging--a multifaceted heart-shaped bottle capped with a pair of gold-and-crystal-dotted rings--is one of the cutest I've seen since Lolita Lempicka's inspired amethyst apple. What's more, the rings that circle the atomizer can be removed, promising modern women a scented and accessorial fairy tale in the making. --Marlen Harrison
