Hot Chocolate
Friday
For decades, chocolate was basically considered junk food--fatty, high-calorie stuff that inspired as many feelings of guilt as pleasure post-consumption. But in the past few years, the medical community has been rethinking its position: As it turns out, some forms of chocolate may help improve cardiovascular health, and studies even suggest that it can reduce the risk of certain cancers. Now, of course, the sweet treat is making its way into everything from fall scents (like Vera Wang's Princess fragrance) to cell phones (such as Verizon's must-have mobile). My favorite cocoa-inspired goodies? Paul & Joe's Parisienne Chocolate collection--a line of luxe shadows and lipsticks that are every bit as delicious as their name suggests.

Encased in gorgeous vintage-style packaging, the Facecolor Powders ($18 each; sephora.com) come in three shimmery two-toned palettes that go far beyond basic brown. With its pale green and warm taupe shades, Aucre D'Orge Menthe resembles a chocolate-covered mint; Fraises Aux Chocolat calls on pearl pink and rose for an equally confectionary effect; and Noix De Macadamia combines cream and rich bronze for the line's most versatile pairing. Silky and well pigmented, the shadows can be used on cheeks and lips, but the more traditional can simply sweep the deeper shades across their lids and dab the lighter hues on the browbone. No less luscious are the Parisienne Chocolate lipsticks ($18 each)--creamy, hydrating tints that come in three skin-flattering shades. Lait Fraise, a dusty rose, is a perfect foil to this fall's dramatic eye, but the shades I keep coming back to are Confiture De Framboise, a rich berry, and Chocolat Chaud, a glistening golden brown. --Tara Mattarazzo
