Find of the Week: East Meets West
Sunday
Blame it on last year's Memoirs of a Geisha or Project Runway alum Kara Janx, but these days, kimono dresses are quickly becoming a wardrobe staple. And is it any wonder? With their sleek lines and cinched waists, the Eastern-inspired garments are as versatile and flattering as any little black dress. But unlike their monotone counterparts, kimonos offer their wearers the opportunity to experiment with color. One my favorite incarnations of the trend is this silk number by Geren Ford ($403; girlshop.com). Featuring wide sleeves, a deep V neck, and a just-above-the-knee length, it's both playful and elegant. What's more, the dress boasts clever colorblocking, a cool scallop print, and a bold red sash--chic, modern details that set it apart from the this fall's largely colorless fare. --Jennifer Riley
