Out of the Box
Friday
Like strappy sandals and skimpy bikinis, summer makeup collections are fabulous but fleeting. (Be honest: How many times are you really going to whip out that turquoise shadow and bubblegum gloss after Labor Day?). Since most of us can't afford to replace all of our cosmetics every season, what we need is at least one makeup line that's truly trans-seasonal. As luck would have it, ModelCo's new ColourBox collection is packed with products that will look every bit as fabulous at Thanksgiving dinner as they did on the Fourth of July. Encased in the brand's signature hot pink-and-white packaging, the line includes 14 eye shadows ($18 each; sephora.com), two eye pencils ($16 each), three blushes ($26 each), five lip pencils ($16 each), and five lip glosses ($26 each, shown)—all created with convenience in mind (each pencil comes with a handy sharpener, the blush compact has a separate compartment for the applicator, and the gloss features its own lipliner and retractable flat brush). Some of the collection's standouts include the St. Tropez and Seychelles eye shadows (the former is a versatile bronze shimmer, the latter a glistening gold that doubles as a highlighter); the Nectarine and Pomegranate glosses (pinkish brown and soft rose glazes whose intensity you can control with the pencil); and the C'est La Vie blush (a shimmery terracotta powder that imparts a warm bronze glow). And speaking of sun-kissed, the line also includes the Bronze Duo and the Bronze Trio ($28 each), but in the second case, ColourBox is fleeting--the trio is limited-edition, available for this season only. --Kai Alexis Smith
