Dad Tested, Daughter Approved
Saturday
If you're dad's anything like mine--cosmetically clueless and content to remain so--greeting him on Father's Day with a basket full of beauty products might seem as sensible as giving flip-flops to an Inuit. Fortunately, Gents (gentsllc.com) is fully stocked with practical, easy-to-use men's cosmetics that will appeal to the most low-maintenance dads. (In other words, these goodies aren't the least bit girly, because you know he's not going to swoon over the same shimmer body lotion you adore).

To find out which of Gents' many products were the most dad-friendly, I sent a big package to my own father and then had my mom report back. Dad immediately gravitated toward the Max Green Alchemy Scalp Rescue Shampoo ($16), a fresh citrusy formula for daily use; the Natural Dentist Healthy Gums Oral Rinse ($9), a refreshing peppermint mouthwash; and the IntelliGents Shea Butter Shave ($28), an antibacterial glycerin cream that, according to Mom, reduces post-shaving irritation. Although it took a few days (and a little feminine prompting) for him to warm up to the Osea Ocean Cleanser ($36), he's now happily set aside his usual Dial in favor of the invigorating face wash.

The real standout, however, was the UV Natural Golf SPF 30 ($34 full size; $18 travel size, shown), a fragrance-free, zinc oxide-based sunscreen containing green-tea and grapeseed extracts, as well as vitamins D and E. Whether it's the high SPF or the word "golf" stamped in bold letters on the tube, Dad's reportedly applying the broad-spectrum sunscreen liberally several times a day. And by providing him with protection against UV damage and skin cancer, I'm happily giving my father the best present a daughter could bestow—the gift of looking out for the guy who's always taken care of me. --Jennifer Riley

LOL. I can't see my dad using a "cleanser" but the golf sunscreen definitely.
