Gone Fishing

If your grandma's anything like mine, she's forever telling you to find "a good catch"--a task that's easier said than done. Thankfully, finding a good cosmetic catch is remarkably simple with M.A.C.'s latest avalanche of limited-edition lines: Lure, Bait, Hooked, and She Shines (maccosmetics.com). And when a girl looks gorgeous, of course, reeling them in is a cinch (which should assuage nana's anxiety about your love life, at least for the time being).

Described by the company as "shimmeringly pale," "strikingly strong," and "aqua-glamorous," the Lure collection adds a dazzling array of hues to a bronze skin base. The line comprises four Lipsticks ($14 each), four Lipglasses ($14 each), two Blushcremes ($17.50), six Eye Shadows ($13.50); one Pro Lash mascara ($10); and two Brushes ($18.50)—all encased in pearlescent turquoise packaging. Some of our favorites include the Lure Lipstick (a faint fleshy magenta with silver pearl), the Pink Clash Lipglass (a soft golden pinky-peach), and the Sex Ray Lipglass (a fiery magenta with gold glitter that looks more like a sun-ripened berry on lips). The Lure Blushcreme (a pale golden peach) looks exquisite on pale to medium skin tones (you needn't be well-baked to wear this one), while the Delphic Fluidline (a bright silvery turquoise) is perfect for creating a brilliant metallic eye. The Waternymph Eye Shadow (a bold teal with emerald pearl) will appeal to daring divas, while those seeking a subtler look will love Sea Myth (an iridescent pinky off-white that doubles as a highlighter).

If Lure delivers the season's palette, Bait preps the canvas, keeping skin moist, luminous, and protected. The collection includes Moisturegleam ($16.50), a lightweight, pearlized body lotion; four Tinted Lip Conditioner Sticks SPF 15 ($14); the Microfine Refinisher scrub ($24.50); and Blot Film ($12.50), a longtime staple of shiny girls everywhere. Meanwhile, Bait focuses on faux glow and finish, with the Face and Body Bronze FX Foundation (available in Golden or Deeper Bronze), the Bronzing Powder (in Golden and Refined Enriched Bronze), and two shimmery pearlizers (in Good as Gold and Apripeach). The clincher for most M.A.C. addicts are the Pigments ($19.50), and She Shines introduces seven new swoonworthy pots in taupes, pinks, greens, and blues. Standouts include the smoky olive Night Light; the soft Golden Blue (which looks more silvery than gold when applied); and the almost electric Golden Green—finely ground goodies that are sure to fly off the shelves, so catch them while you can. —Jennifer Riley
