Gold Rush

With all of the new lip glosses for spring—from sheer to sparkly, potted to portable—a girl could spend weeks, even months, trying to track down her dream shade. And who wants to wait that long? For instant-gratification glossing in a rainbow of glistening hues, I recommend heading straight for Yves Saint Laurent Golden Gloss ($25.50 each; nordstrom.com). Unlike sticky or fleeting formulas, these beauties go on supersmooth and stay put for hours. The shimmer is doled out in subtle doses so you can wear them to work even if you're not employed as a Vegas showgirl. And the formula features nigelle and cameline oils, so in addition to making your lips look fabulous, it hydrates, softens, and protects. Although I'm still swooning over the entire line, I find myself reaching most often for #3, a warm versatile pink, and #2, a skin-flattering berry; just a drop of either in the middle of the lower lip is all it takes to create a sexy, lustrous pout. Or, you can sweep #1, a true 14k sheen, over your vampiest lipstick for added drama after dark (a must if you do manage to snag that showgirl gig). —Tara Mattarazzo
