Rose Parade
Friday
These days, rose-based fragrances can run the risk of smelling stale, but we've sniffed out a few rosy aromas for spring that are anything but old-fashioned. Much in the spirit of its ’60s brand ambassador, Audrey Hepburn, and her contemporary counterpart, spokesmodel Liv Tyler, Givenchy has managed to combine timelessness and modernity in one fresh, elegant, and, yes, very irresistible package. Givenchy Very Irresistible Eau de Toilette ($43; sephora.com) is a complex, alluring scent bursting with five different rose notes, star anise, and verbena leaf. Fragrance fanatics will love wearing the sultry, sophisticated scent from day into evening (it has amazing staying power, and the drydown is superb), while minimalists will prefer to don it only after dark. Thanks to the design supervision of Argentinean sculptor Pablo Reinoso, the sleek, twisty bottle resembles a fine piece of fine art glass, making the lush accord especially ideal for aesthetes. And for a limited time only, you can also snag Very Irresistible Givenchy Summer for Women ($48; sephora, shown), a lighter and lovely, but sadly not quite as long-lasting, version of the original. Another standout rose-based fragrance, Shiseido Rose Rouge combines Bulgarian and Morrocan rose with red peony, blackberry, raspberry, and woods for a sweeter, fruitier take on the trend (at the moment, however, it's nearly impossible to find in the United States beyond eBay). Thierry Mulger La Rose Angel ($60; sephora.com) mixes the classic floral with bergamot, hedione, honey, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, coumarin, and berries for a soft, almost gourmand spin. And M.A.C.'s new Dejarose combines Bulgarian, Turkish, and Tea Red Roses with green notes, an air of red raspberry, and the lush aromas of orchid, lily, jasmine, and peony. Although the Dejarose collection has largely been hailed for its vibrant color collection, we're equally, if not more, smitten by the fragrance, which the brand rightfully defines as "an intriguing paradox," a "thoroughly modern 'retro scent'." —Kai Alexis Smith

Great round-up. I love the Givenchy, it's amazing. I didn't know they have one for summer, so I'll check it out.
