Find of the Week: Haute Hybrid
Friday
Born and raised in suburbia (yes, I have issues), I've always associated the visor with none-too-trendy soccer moms and little-league dads. Granted, Maria Sharapova looks lovely donning hers, but unless I’m suddenly bestowed with a wildcard to Wimbledon, I’d be foolish to follow in the accessorial footsteps of a tennis phenom. And true, Gwen Stefani reinvented the sporty head cover a few years ago for the streetwear set, but the singer could get away with wearing a rose parade on her head (and recently did at the Billboard awards), so I can’t go by her. Beyond all that, I’ve never understood the need for the accessory among nonathletes: Why not wear a proper hat or go without? Why the half-stepping? So naturally, I was thrown when I first stumbled upon Ekologic’s cable-knit number ($68; ekologic.com)—a beautifully billed accessory that has since changed my entire visor view. Made from double layers of plush cashmere, it features contrasting-color piping and merino bow accent and comes in several color combinations, including Tango Blue/Camel, Camel/Gray, and Light Blue/White (shown). Best of all, the visor is constructed from 99 percent recycled materials, for a seasonal transition piece that’s both stylish and eco-friendly. —xoxoxJenny
