Is it just me, or are beauty stores starting to resemble sex shops? The past few years have seen the rise of a new breed of cosmetics that look more like the types of items you’d find in suspicious brown wrappers than in Sephora’s sleek gift bags. Dessert Beauty, from the soon-to-be-single Jessica Simpson, offers shimmering makeup and bath and body products that are spreadable, lickable, and edible. Tarte’s Hookup Handbag ($35; tartecosmetics.com) is packed with more than just makeup; its feathered French tickler rounds out a wicked package that includes all the supplies needed for a scandalous evening out. As flirty as these lines are, they look positively prudish compared to Pout’s G-Spot Panties Set ($34; sephora.com, shown), which comes with an iridescent pink, um, lip sheen called Easy Ethel. And for your shaving pleasure, ladies, there’s the Gillette Venus Vibrance ($9; walgreens.com); simply push the button for an invigorating experience that puts Xandria’s offerings to shame. Perhaps the unrivaled popularity of Nars’s Orgasm and Deep Throat blushes ($25 each; amazon.com)—products that sound racy but really aren’t—should’ve been my first tip-off to the erotically charged beauty trend. Either way, looking pretty just got a whole lot more interesting. —Marissa Kristal
