Q: I’m starting to notice fine lines under my eyes. Can you give me any suggestions for eye creams and eye-makeup removers? Eye wrinkles give character to gentlemen like, say...Robert Redford. For the rest of us, it’s a totally different ballgame. I recommend that you start arming yourself with a good eye cream now so that you can begin fighting the good fight. Keep in mind that you can apply them anytime: In the morning, eye creams can help reduce puffiness (chilled cucumber slices are also great for this), and these creams are also perfect before bed because skin-care ingredients are at their most effective while you sleep. Either way, the key is remembering to apply them consistency. My favorite eye creams, from least to most expensive, are: Olay Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum, which is packed with amino-peptides; Yon Ka Phyto Contour, the best anti-puff cream out there; Bioelements Multi Task Eye Kit, whose cream is loaded with shea butter and cucumber; and Estée Lauder Re-nutriv Ultimate Lifting Eye Cream, which has an immediate eye-brightening effect. And as for eye-makeup removers, be sure to choose one with a water rather than an oil base. My favorite is Makeup Dissolver by Bioelements; the 2-ounce bottle retails for $10 and will last you quite a while. And finally, if you’re using petroleum jelly to remove makeup—you know who you are—stop immediately, as it can encourage the formation of milia, hard papules around the eyes that resemble whiteheads. Licensed skin-care therapist, makeup artist, and hairstylist Stacy Cox is the owner of the Pampered People Spa in Los Angeles, a national expert for Olay, and a regular guest beauty expert on Soap Talk. She can be seen on ABC’s Extreme Makeover and hosting a Dermacia infomercial on various cable networks with supermodel Rachel Hunter. |
